How to Develop Good Sleep Habits

Sleep Sleep Apnea Treatment

  1. Go to sleep at the same time every night.

  2. Try a light snack before sleeping. Foods high in tryptophan such as bananas may help.

  3. Try and not take your worries to bed with you.

  4. Regular exercise will help but not immediately before bedtime.

  5. Take a warm bath. Water that is too hot will only stimulate you and keep you awake.

  6. Avoid alcohol, caffeine, smoking, and large meals within four hours of bedtime.

  7. Deep breathing exercises will speed your relaxation.

  8. Reserve your bed for sleeping. Do not use your bed as a work place.

  9. Keep noise levels down and the room dark.

  10. Sleeping on your side and slightly elevated is recommended.

  11. Keep your room at a comfortable temperature and make sure your bed is big enough for your needs.

  12. Try and avoid long term use of medications to help you fall asleep. If you must be on them then only do this under the care of you physician.

  13. Limit your naptime, set a regular bedtime and try not to go to bed too early.

  14. Try and get your stress and anxiety under control before sleep.

Austin Apnea and Snoring Therapy can use oral appliances as an alternative to CPAP. Oral appliances have been registered by the FDA and may be used to treat sleep apnea when administered by a qualified dentist trained in Dental Sleep Therapy.
