What Our Patients Says About Us
Do you LOVE your CPAP mask? Neither do I. I hate the stupid thing and refuse to use it. Now, I only have moderate sleep apnea (I stop breathing about 20-30 time an hour), but it is enough to bother me the next day. I ran out of options, until I met Dr. Denbar. He fit me with a mouth guard that forced my lower jaw forward allowing greater air flow. My last sleep study showed that I did not stop breathing once the WHOLE night. I only had a couple of partial episodes during the night. That is what you call a night and day difference. The office staff is very nice. I have never had a problem with them. I wish the employees at other places would treat me like they do. Very nice people. Dr. Denbar is a cool guy. He is an old navy guy. Great stories. He does not sugarcoat things, but you will always get the best and honest answer out of him. He is also brilliant. He is so knowledgeable about his field. He has given me tips on how to sleep better. Some of the tips are off the wall…but they actually work!!! If you have sleep apnea and the CPAP is not working…then you have to go see this guy. Amazing!!!!

I’m 40 years old and in good shape. I was diagnosed with Mild sleep apnea after I decided to get a sleep study as a result of not feeling refreshed after my normal 8 hours of sleep. I was referred to Dr. Denbar by a sleep specialist. From the moment I met him and his Team, I felt compassion and concern immediately. They went above and beyond to make sure the mouth piece fit perfectly. For the first time in years, I wake up feeling refreshed and have more energy throughout the day. My snoring has also been greatly reduced which my wife appreciates. Thank you to Dr. Denbar and team.

My experience with Dr. Denbar and his staff has been wonderful. He fitted me for a new appliance and spent close to an hour explaining not only my results and how they impacted me but also how the appliance was going to work, how to use it, how to care for it. He does not sugar coat stuff he tells you exactly what the issue is and what can be done about it, unlike the majority of new Doctors where you leave the office feeling good but not having a clue what just happened, with him you will fully understand the issue backwards and forwards and the entire treatment plan and your role in its success. He makes sure that his patients are fully educated. His office staff is always available, super friendly, and know exactly what they’re doing.”

I went on referral to Dr. Denbar for Sleep Apnea assessment. The treatment was thoughtful and corrective and has changed the way I sleep and feel all day long….seriously. Dr. Denbar is tenacious about assessing and making the right recommendation and alterations and monitors you during the change. His staff is obviously long term and seem to know everything also. Dr. Denbar is direct about what he is doing and what you need to do based on facts and individual circumstances. I certainly would love to not have sleep apnea and wake up wanting to run a marathon but that was not my destiny. However, this has made a world of difference in my existence and did what they told me it would do. My gratitude to Dr. Denbar and his staff.

I was having some serious sleep issues. After going to several doctors, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea and got referred to go to Dr. Denbar. Thanks to Dr. Denbar, I sleep like a baby now. I feel way more energized, happy and healthier overall. One of the things I enjoyed about my first visit was that he took the time (nearly an hour) to explain absolutely everything (next step, expected results, how it works) in a way I could easily understand. I left the office knowing exactly what I was getting into; I was relieved. I’ve had my dental device for over a year now and cannot live without it. Their staff has always been kind and reminded me of my appointment’s way in advance. I could not ask for more from a Dr. and their staff, totally recommend him. He’s been doing this for over 20 years and he certainly knows what he is doing. Thanks Dr. Denbar for helping me out with my sleep issues.

I didn’t think I had a sleeping problem. I’m a fit, energetic, mid 20’s athlete who has about 8% body fat. I work out regularly, eat right, and get good sleep. Or at least thought I did. About 3 years back I began waking up tired, and grouchy, eyes bloodshot and wondering if this was life’s way of saying “Hey you’re an adult now”. I reassured myself saying “I don’t have a sleeping disorder, that’s only for unhealthy people”. Well the problem persisted and passed over into an awful nightly fit of snoring and restlessness. I would have never know save for the fact I (unwilling) kicked my poor girlfriend out of the bed. After 6 painful months of switching back and forth between the bed and couch, I was fed up with this new routine. I needed help.
Went through my primary who recommended a home sleep test. Followed the instructions and within 2 weeks I found out that I had mild to severe sleep apnea. Figures.
My primary recommended Dr. Denbar, since the problem rose from my jaw placement closing off my airway. Upon arrival at my scheduled appointment the office is a tad dated, nothing glamorous or extravagant. The staff are very friendly and courteous to my need. Most of the insurance paperwork was handled by phone, however my insurance would not cover the procedure (of course). Price was fairly reasonable for the amount of work done. Little paperwork was completed in the office which was a nice change of things. After the necessary preparations and x-rays were taken, I met with Dr. Denbar who immediately got down to brass tacks about my issue. He wasn’t there to talk about life problems or become friends, his profession is to treat sleep apnea first. Maybe some people really care about chumming up to their physicians, but after being a healthcare worker for 5 years I respect a provider willing to do his job first, and formalities later.
I had a mold taken of my teeth, and the device was fitted several weeks later. Uncomfortable, yes but after wearing a mouth guard to bed for the last 10 years it was nothing extreme. The first night I was extremely skeptical… how cold a simple jaw altering device fix my issue? Wouldn’t I need CPAP? Dr. Denbar insisted that this was the way to go, and that CPAP’s were annoying and extraneous. And dear god he was right.
After the first night I was COMPLETELY refreshed like I hadn’t had a clean night of sleep in YEARS!!! It is difficult to explain, but I had energy, no more late night bathroom trips, no more heavy chest, and no more SNORING!!! This singular mouth guard device has improved my life incredibly! I strongly recommend Dr. Denbar to any individual suffering from sleep apnea. The man is a sleep apnea professional and should be lauded as such among the Austin community. Now I can safely say I am not snoring anymore and sleep in the same place all night! Yet now my back hurts…maybe it’s time for a new bed…

I have nothing but praise for Dr. Denbar and his office. I have sleep apnea and could not tolerate a CPAP machine so looked into a dental appliance to manage my apnea. Dr. Denbar is quite proud of his expertise in management of my sleep apnea with a dental device. His pride is justified! Obviously extremely knowledgeable and it is obvious his pride will drive him to make the device work for you no matter how challenging the situation. He has answered all my questions patiently and in depth, he has made it very clear that his office is always available on short notice for consultation on using the device and to make any needed adjustments. My last visit they modified the appliance by adding some spacer blocks. His nurse is excellent, the lady at the front desk is charming and friendly. I put out a LOT of money up front for the services and appliance. They made no iron-clad promises, but before I knew it they had got me a check from Medicare for most of it. I can’t speak re’ Dr. Denbar’s practice and other dental issues, but for the management of sleep apnea with a dental appliance I doubt there is anyone else within a few hundred miles who even comes close. I am a very difficult patient for a doctor who doesn’t like someone doing their own research and asking questions and expecting answers. Martin and I are getting along great!

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea over 10 years ago. Since then, I’ve had a couple of surgeries and worn an oral appliance to manage my condition. Earlier this year, my oral appliance which was prescribed by another dentist, broke just before I left for a trip overseas. This is when I was directed to Dr. Denbar and his staff by my regular dentist.
My experience with him and his staff has been incredible. They have been responsive, thorough and methodical in their analysis and treating my condition. He rebuilt my old appliance, so I could make my overseas trip, but made me promise to let them do a more thorough analysis of my condition upon my return to ensure they were able to optimize my treatment.
The results are truly amazing. I have a much better understanding of my apnea and confidence that I am optimally treating my condition.
Thank you Dr. Denbar and kudos to your staff. They have been great.

I had the very good fortune to be referred to Dr. Denbar by my Sleep Medicine doctor. I seem to be one of those patients who can’t tolerate CPAP therapy for my moderate to severe apnea. So, I was in need of an alternative treatment. Dr. Denbar and his staff have been able to provide just that. He first conducts an all-encompassing exam in which he reviews your sleep study results and your facial/mouth structure. He gives a very informative talk about how sleep apnea can so adversely affect your life. This is actually the second time I’ve returned to Dr. Denbar as my apnea worsened with age. Dr. Denbar determined that I would benefit from “combination therapy” and boy, has that made a difference in my sleep quality. That’s a therapy where you wear an oral repositioning appliance but also a CPAP. They complement each other very well and Dr. Denbar and staff made the combination for me to wear. The appliance is so much more comfortable and effective than either CPAP alone or the oral appliance alone. After having chronic fatigue for so long, I was becoming grumpy and very short with people. After wearing the combination device, I am waking up much more rested and even my friends and family have commented about how much less “bitchy” I am. I can’t say enough good thing about Dr. Denbar and his staff. They will drop whatever they are doing to work you into their schedule. Going through the process of having the oral appliance fitted means returning to their office several times. Which I have been glad to do as the staff is so much fun to interact with. Another point that won me over to Dr. Denbar is that he contracts with several insurance companies so that you can use your insurance. I’ll just wrap up by saying that I think I owe my current quality of life to Dr. Denbar. Know that when you are struggling to breathe all night that it will adversely affect so many aspects of your life (angry personality, job performance, interpersonal relationships, etc.). I highly recommend him to restore your health and outlook on life by correcting your sleeping problems.
